Hey folks–
My latest obsession is with crochet earrings. I have about three almost-finished pairs in my needlework bag, but I just finished my first pair today! They’re a gift for a good friend of mine. The pattern I used is available for free here, on the JPF Crochet Club website.
After I finished crocheting the earrings, [...]

So it seems that everyone’s moms owned crochet pattern books back in the ’70s and ’80s, based on the comments I’ve read on this blog thus far. That’s pretty fantastic. Just imagine all of our moms, in each of the far-flung corners of the world, simultaneously crocheting doilies and ridiculous sweaters 30 years ago. Priceless.
Anyway, [...]

As promised, here is the patten for the flower appliques I used on my hats. The pattern is loosely based on a flower applique from Vol. 9 (1973) of Uncinetto, although my mom and I modified it quite a bit. The following pattern is for one color of yarn, although you can certainly improvise it [...]

As you may have noticed, I’m taking a short break from craft blogging in order to make room for, um, some of the gems of the Internet. The new featured game on bored.com is Hedgehog Launch! Basically, if you’ve ever had the urge to catapult small mammals into outer space, this game is for you. [...]

I don’t mean the bad kind of pirates (i.e., modern-day pirates and those ecoplundering fish pirates). I’m talkin’ about those good ol’ fashioned, Pirates of the Caribbean, swashbuckling, booty-plundering, eyepatch- and pantaloon-wearing pirates…of course.
Yes We Can (Hold Babies) showcased this precious picture of a baby Prez-Elect Barack Obama dressed as…A PIRATE (!!) for Halloween. It’s [...]

I’ve been on a crochet frenzy these last few weeks. Making holiday gifts is a great way to procrastinate on my thesis. In Vol. 9 of Uncinetto (one of my mom’s Italian crochet mags), from the year 1973, I found a pattern for a floppy hat.
I modified the pattern a bit, and came up with [...]

I learned how to crochet from my mom when I was in high school, although I just picked it up again this fall. My mom learned how to crochet from Italian nuns (Mom hails from northern Italy; she came to the States in 1977 after she and my dad got married). One of my mom’s [...]

I was browsing around on Indie Crafts and found this awesome free program called Poladroid. You can download it here. It allows you to convert digital jpeg photos into pseudo-polaroids. I’ve been playing around with it a bit, and it’s pretty great. It makes any picture look retro and hip. I think the best part [...]

Welcome to The Vintage Glue! I’m a big fan of indie crafts, art, cooking, and miscellany from the internets. I hope that this blog will become a repository for projects I’ve attempted, cool ideas, and fun links. There is a vibrant community of crunchy craft bloggers out there, and after searching for some new crochet [...]
